The airspace over Icy Strait Point is not just for the Bald Eagles anymore. Welcome to ZipRider’s longest zip line cable ride!!! The construction on Icy Strait Point’s ZipRider has drawn to a close and cruise line passengers were able to experience the wild ride on the opening day, Monday, May 14th. After reaching the bottom towers one rider exclaimed, “That was the coolest experience of my life!”
It’s easy to understand why. The whole experience begins at Icy Strait Point where customers leave in the tour van and drive through the town of Hoonah. From there customers are driven 6 miles up the mountain to the top station of the ZipRider. From here the cruise ship looks like a toy boat on the water The view is absolutely spectacular! After the gates open, you accelerate out over a cliff and come as close to a raw flying experience as possible. In front of you lies the panoramic view of the watery sound and surrounding islands, racing beneath you is the dense forest canopy, and Icy Strait Point grows larger and larger as you near the bottom.
